Chatting with Patrice

Everyday Ruralty

I can't believe how warm the weather is here.  I would definitely have our chats on the porch today.  It's nearly 60 degrees - much warmer than it has been.  I could make some fresh baked oatmeal raisin cookies and serve your choice of coffee or tea.

I couldn't wait to start on this batch of questions.

1. Have you ever been on a boat?  Oh yes.  I have been in a row boat, canoe, speed boat, house boat, cruise ship.  I have vertigo and none of them agree with me.  In fact, the most steady ship I have been on - left me with the worst case of vertigo.  Not fun!

2.  Do you need an alarm to wake up, or do you wake up naturally?  I don't use an alarm except for Sunday morning.  I usually wake up on my own around 7:30.  Being pregnant, there have been a few days I slept to 8:00, but usually those nights I didn't get to bed at a decent time.

3.  Have you ever had a yard sale?  Yes, a few times, but I don't like to have them.  I don't think the time and energy put into them is worth it.  I would rather donate and let an organization use the money to provide for the needy.

4.  Do you like kitchen gadgets?  What are some of your favorites?  Oh, gadgets!  I used to sell Pampered Chef.  That is a great place to get started on unnecessary gadgets.  Oh boy!  But, over the years, I have discovered I don't need most of them.  My favorite items are my chef knife and my santoku knife.  I'm actually quite fast with chopping.  The other top used gadgets, if you would call them gadgets, are the potato peeler and garlic press.  I do find myself chopping garlic with a knife quite often.  Oh, I nearly forgot.  There is one more gadget I use frequently - the cake tester.  I like it because it's longer than a toothpick and I don't feel I am wasting them.  I have had so many gadgets in the kitchen, but they have all started collecting dust.

5.  Do you read labels at the grocery store?  Yes, but not because of allergies.  Although, Peanut is allergic to peanuts (go figure).  I look at labels to determine if something is made with soy or corn.  I look to make sure there isn't high fructose corn syrup, also.  Most of all, I look to make sure what I am buying is all natural and I can pronounce everything in it.  It's important to me.  There are some things I have started to buy organic because I know the garbage won't be in the box or can.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope to see you soon and please leave a comment.  I love stopping by your blogs to see what you have.

  1. You do have lots of gadgets...love Pampered Chef. As for the Keurig, we have some friends who work for Green Mountain Coffee and can get one for half price!!!

  2. I said in my post I don't do gadgets anymore, but after reading some of the chats I've already found two gadgets I would love to own. Your cake tester is one of them, I know I would use it. Then Brenda over at Mammaw's Place had the neatest butter slicer. Oh dear, I feel weak, I think some new gadgets are heading my way. teehee I had a great time visiing with you on Patrice's porch!

    1. That is pretty funny. We don't think about what we could use if we don't know about them. You could just pretend you never heard. :)

    1. I try to keep it easy to find. But, if I actually got rid of some of the things I don't use, I would have more space. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. My breadmachine gets used everyday. Sometimes all day. So I consider it a gadget. haha.

I have so many pampered chef items as well. The chopper is a favorite of ours. Especially my children. They argue over who gets to chop.

    1. I used to have the chopper. I got rid of it. I found I was better at chopping by hand. But, it was good for onions - which I was not very good at. Now, I can do it by hand. No problems. I used to have a bread machine many years ago, probably 12? Anyway, I found I preferred making it by hand. Funny, right?

  5. Such a tidy gadget drawer! I can do many things with my trusty knives. I would read labels even if we didn't have allergies. I think they put too much STUFF in our food. Isn't the day lovely? It's 60 here. I have all the windows opened. It is so nice to not hear the pellet stove, and air cleaner machine. The gentle breeze seems so clean to me.I'm usually a winter person, but this year I'm anxious for spring. Have a great week!

    1. Oh Patrice, I'm with you there. I think I am a winter person too, but with the crazy pattern of weather, It seems better to just skip winter. Stop teasing us with snow and get on with it.

It got up to 66 here and we had windows open as well.

  6. Congrats on expecting your 6th! Don't you just hate all the corn syrup in food?! Amazing isn't it? Nice to sit and chat with you!

    1. Thank you. I do hate corn syrup in food. I look for sugar. When I buy soft drinks, I buy Sierra Mist or Throwback Pepsi. Of course, I wish I knew whether or not it was cane or beet sugar. Unfortunately, the only way of knowing that is to write the company and hope for a response. Most beet sugar is genetically modified, just like most corn and soy.

    1. Who knew a cake tester would be the rave? I got it from Pampered Chef years ago. :)

  9. LOL...I want a cake tester, too. I didn't even know such a thing exists. I'm not much of a gadget person either. By the time I find the right gadget, use it and then clean it, I could have just used a knife, or a fork, etc. My kids, they love gadgets.

  10. You are so right! Kids use the gadgets because they are easier. Unfortunately, I think it only makes it worse for them in the future because they have no skills on how to use a knife. LOL

  12. I sold Pampered Chef for a little while, too. I got rid of most of the stuff, though, because clutter makes me crazy! You know the tiny $1 paring knife that PC sells is the one item I use constantly.

    1. It's funny you mention that little knife. I could never use them. I found them too floppy. Yet so many people I know love them. It just goes to show what one person loves another doesn't have a use for.
